FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Frequently Asked Questions

Hike Camp Seek monitors popular campsites, caravan parks, and accommodation across Australia for cancellations. We notify you the moment availability opens up, so you can book the trip you want.

Getting Started

What is Hike Camp Seek?

Hike Camp Seek is a cancellation notification service for outdoor accommodation across Australia. We monitor campsites, caravan parks, holiday parks, and other accommodation for availability changes, and alert you instantly when a spot opens up.

How do I create an account?

Tap Sign up and enter your name, email, and a password. You can also sign up with your Google account for a faster start. Once registered, you can set alerts straight away.

What is an alert?

An alert is a request to be notified when a cancellation occurs at a specific campsite or accommodation, for a date range you choose. We monitor availability on your behalf and notify you via Email, SMS, or WhatsApp when something opens up.

Is the service free to use?

Yes. During our current launch phase, all features are available at no cost. You can have up to 3 active alerts and 10 alerts in total (active plus paused). We use real-time adaptive scanning and deliver notifications via Email, SMS, or WhatsApp.

What types of accommodation can I track?

You can track campsites, caravan parks, holiday parks, cabins, and other supported outdoor accommodation across Australia. Coverage continues to expand as we integrate with more booking systems.

Setting Up Alerts

How do I search for campgrounds or accommodation?

Use the Set Alert page to search by location name. You can also browse our Interactive Map to explore campgrounds, caravan parks, and accommodation across Australia.

How do I set up a cancellation alert?

Go to Set Alert, search for the campground or accommodation you want, select your preferred dates and party size, then confirm. We will start monitoring for cancellations on your behalf and notify you the moment something opens up.

What regions or areas does the service cover?

We currently cover outdoor accommodation managed through our booking platforms, which include popular parks and campgrounds across multiple Australian states. Use the Catalogue or Interactive Map to see all available locations.

Can I set alerts for multiple locations at once?

Yes. You can create separate alerts for multiple locations and date ranges, within your account limits (3 active and 10 total). This is one of the best ways to increase your chances of finding availability.

How do I use the trip planner?

Open the Interactive Map and browse available locations. You can add stops to build a multi-stop trip, reorder them, view driving distances between stops, and save the trip for future reference.

Notifications & Scanning

How are notifications delivered?

Notifications are sent via Email, SMS, or WhatsApp, or a combination, depending on your preferences. Each notification includes the details of the available spot and a direct link to the booking page so you can act immediately.

How often do you scan for availability?

We use adaptive scanning that increases frequency as your booking date approaches. Dates more than 6 months away are scanned roughly once per hour. Dates 2-6 months out are scanned more frequently. Dates within 0-2 months are scanned every 10-15 minutes, when cancellations are most likely.

Is there an order to which people get notified?

No. All users monitoring the same location receive notifications simultaneously. We believe this is the fairest approach and it mirrors international best practice.

Why did I receive multiple alerts for the same campsite?

This can happen when someone starts a booking but does not complete it, availability briefly reopens due to system timing, or multiple cancellations occur for similar dates. This is normal behaviour with real-time booking systems.

Managing Your Account

How do I manage, pause, or delete my alerts?

Visit My Alerts to see all your active and paused alerts. From there you can pause an alert with a single tap (to temporarily stop notifications), reactivate it later, or delete it entirely.

How do I change my notification preferences?

Go to My Account Details & Settings to update your preferred notification channel (Email, SMS, or WhatsApp), change your phone number, or update your name and email address.

What happens when my alert dates pass?

Alerts automatically expire once the last viable start date for the alert has passed. That means there is no longer enough room left in the date window to begin the consecutive stay you requested. You will no longer receive notifications for that alert, and you can delete expired alerts from My Alerts.

How do I delete my account?

Go to My Account Details & Settings and select Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, all alerts, and all saved data. Notifications will stop immediately and the action cannot be undone.

Bookings & Availability

How do bookings work?

We do not process bookings directly. When we find availability, we send you a link to the official booking page (powered by our booking platform), where you complete and pay for the booking at the standard rate. No middlemen, no mark-ups.

Does a notification guarantee I will get a booking?

No. We cannot control whether cancellations occur, how many people are competing for the same spot, or how quickly a booking is completed. We provide early notification to give you the best possible chance of securing an opening.

Why have I not received any alerts yet?

Common reasons include: no cancellations have occurred for your selected dates, your date range is very narrow, or the trip is far in the future (most cancellations happen closer to arrival). Widening your date range or setting alerts for nearby locations can help.

What is the best way to increase my chances?

Use a wider date range, create alerts for nearby or alternative locations, respond immediately when you receive a notification (popular sites can be booked within minutes), and choose a notification channel you check instantly with push notifications enabled.

Privacy, Security & Legal

Is this service legal?

Yes, completely. We partner with booking platforms and integrate through their official APIs. We do not scrape websites or bypass booking system procedures. Our monitoring complies with booking system terms, reduces server load through aggregated requests and adaptive polling, and does not interfere with official booking processes.

How is my personal data handled?

We take data privacy seriously. We collect only the information needed to provide the service (name, email, phone number, alert preferences). We do not sell your data to third parties. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.

Can I use the service from outside Australia?

Yes. The service is accessible from anywhere. International travellers can sign up and set alerts to plan trips to Australian campgrounds and accommodation. WhatsApp notifications work internationally without needing a local phone number.

Do you have a mobile app?

Not yet. The website is fully responsive and works well on mobile browsers. We plan to release a dedicated iOS and Android app once the service has matured and we have integrated everything needed for the best possible experience.
